To use a golf glove or not to use a golf glove is the real putting question

Have you ever noticed when pro golfers approach the green most seem to take off their gloves for putting? Is this a rule, proper etiquette, or advantageous?

Many golfers will tell you having the ability to feel the putter in their hands is a good thing. After all, the nerve endings in your fingers provide the brain with valuable tactile feedback. Yet, others feel less grip pressure ensures more control of the putter. So is there a right or a wrong answer when it comes to wearing a glove when putting? Why would a golfer keep their golf glove on to putt

A great debate among amateur and professional golfers is whether or not to wear a glove when putting. Ben Crenshaw and Tiger Woods seem to always remove their glove before putting. Yet, Jack Nicklaus kept his golf glove on. 

We know the golf glove is important because it affects our ability to grip the putter. The key to a good grip is making sure we're not squeezing so hard we can't swing. On the other hand, we need to ensure we're gripping hard enough that we don't throw our club when we swing. It's all a balance that gets fine-tuned with practice. 

However, when it comes to putting, we don't need to worry about throwing the club, or a forceful swing, so why would we need to wear a glove? At that point, it may be advantageous to remove the glove, right? 

We've yet to find some scientific evidence to back either choice for certain. What we do know is outside of putting range, your golf glove can make a difference in your final game score.  

What's the big deal about wearing a golf glove?

If you've never worn gloves during your game before, you may be wondering what the big deal is. If your grip is slippery, it can cause more tension in your hands and arms. Likewise, holding on to your club too tight affects the tension you carry through your shoulders. As a result, that smooth swing you're hoping for doesn't turn out as expected.
